The book series Colección de historias published in Madrid (1767-1768 and 1780-1781) by Manuel Joseph Martín and authored by his nephew Hilario Santos Alonso is studied in the context of Eighteenth Century censorship and competition with other publishers. The Cid and Fernán González stories are especially analyzed considering their relationship to the medieval versions and as part of the short chivalric fiction genre.
