Abstract

This paper is in three parts. The first introduces the heterogeneous public of women that in Early Modern times were enthusiastic readers of chivalric narrative. The second deals with the crusade that moralists and churchmen led against the evil sect of Amadis and his descendants. The last focuses on some pages of an unpublished Mirror of the Christian Princess, concerning issues related to the ethics of reading and paying special attention to the romances of chivalry.
