Dwarves are common presences in the Spanish romances of chivalry (16th-17th centuries). However, they have not been as well studied as other types of prodigious characters in this literary genre, so many of their facets have not yet been sufficiently explored. In the present work, we explore two of them, through the analysis of what happens in chapter xxviii of the Primaleón (1512): the ability of these small characters to play roles in love situations, instead of acting only as intermediaries, and the possible interference of the public and private reality of the Iberian Peninsula’s court dwarfs in this type of literary circumstances.
